the donut adventure

We went to go see a puppet show at the donut co-op, and instead we got our thunderstorm adventure of the season. Here we are totally soaked waiting for the bus to take us home to dry clothes and warm blankets. We did get some delicious donuts in us along the way though.
Here is to summer and all of the amazing adventures it is filled with.

Back at the Spider

We were back at the spider this month, this project was making shoes, from cardboard, bubblewrap and duct tape. This young man was gracious enough to let me photograph his creation.
Baby Dilan came with us and I made him the above adorable shoes, but he was not very interested in being photographed with them, or really having them on at all.

Making Monday: Pot Holders

I have been on a sewing kick and so faced with a going number of scraps I have started to make simple pot holders. They are super fun to make, it is like making mini quilts.

Tattoos

We got new tattoos. The one in the photos is a poem we wrote together in Spanish, it reads:

Cuando vemos la noche bailar con la luna
recordamos que sin lo malo no podriamos
hacer tanto bueno
(when we see the night dance with the moon
we remember that without the bad we couldn't
do so much good)

There are no photos of mine, yet, and it is set to be completed in August. It reads:
Esperanza

Newest Knit Tags of the Season

We went through our bins of yarn again recently. To get rid of some odds and ends I made up some knit tags, and put them up. I got caught once at the bus stop, by an older man, who smiled at me and said, "Some neighborhood beautification, huh", and I would like to think that others think that when they see them too.

Making Monday: Crocheted Bag

I have been on a roll of making t-shirt quilts, and haven't been able to throw away any of the leftover t-shirt materials. So after organizing fabric and rediscovering a bag of t-shirts with their fronts missing, I began to formulate a plan...
The end result is this very lovely, very sturdy hand bag, crocheted completely out of recycled t-shirts.

Rainbow Laundry

Our laundry looks so pretty drying on the clothesline so we decided it was the perfect way to make a rainbow.

Making Monday: Clothespin Holder

We have started using a clothesline in the backyard, but we have now gained clothespins, so a quick drawsting bag later we have a way to keep all those new clothespins together.

We saw the Spider

We volunteered at the Western Sculpture Park with a program that provides free art projects for kids. The project materials come out of a trailer that can be unfolded into a spider that provides shade. It was a lot of fun and we will be back later in July too.

Making Monday: Marker Carrier

I recently sewed myself a fabric case to carry my markers in. So far it has been very useful.
