Marla's

We recently went to Marla's and it was to die for. They have awesome options for meat eaters and non-meat eaters alike. The place is small and welcoming, without any fuss just great food.

The portions are also huge so everyone got to go home with leftovers!

Blooming Art

Last weekend was Art in Bloom at the Minneapolis Institute of Art. It served as a wonderful excuse to go room the galleries and see what was new. We found a variety of very cool new installations.

We also found a game set up in one of the galleries. It was like a table top i-pad in which you could pick categories and try to find which pieces of art went with which category. We ended up playing cooperatively and got a large group of older women playing with us. There was a lot of laughter and excitement and I think there was even some gained knowledge about the art.

Also Happy MAY DAY everyone!

Tracy's

Our latest venture into new restaurants landed us at Tracy's Saloon and Eatery. And it was delicious. There were nachos that tater tots instead of chips, veggie burgers, vanilla malts, and really fun music, which every generation at the table knew.

Victor's Cafe

This month's restaurant was Victor's Cafe. There was a wait even on a snowy Sunday afternoon, but it was a fun place to wait. With standing room only and walls covered in writing, we had a never ending supply of conversation and things to look at. The food was great, (Cuban food is so good!) and really everything was lovely, I would highly recommend going.

Foxy Falafel

We went out for an early lunch to Foxy Falafel, over a month ago and it was amazing. We highly recommended going to try, really anything on the menu. Plus it is featured in some of the central corridor advertising, supporting local business and public transportation, got to love it.

MIA Visit

We went on a date night to the MIA to see the China's Terracotta Warriors, which was amazing. But it was also really nice to go early and wander through the museum. They have an amazing project going on called Art Remix, in which they place new pieces in the galleries of "classic art". It is so much fun to get a surprise when you turn the corner.

Flamingo

Infinite is taking pictures during 2013 for Powderhorn 365.  For this, I take a photograph in the Powderhorn Neighborhood every Friday and it is posted on a blog and put into a book at the end of the year.  Quite an exciting adventure it has been and will be.  Last week we went to Flamingo Divine Finds to take a photograph.  The place and people were wonderful with great things to see and low prices.  Check it out.  They are open 5 days each month.  We were fond of the oldish furniture and framed archives.

Pizza!

We went out to eat at Galactic Pizza, with Monster's mom and brother and Infinite's nephew. Good times were had by all and delicious pizza was eaten. It is super fun to look at the menu through 3-D glasses, and look at the spaceman costumes on display.

Making Monday: Soap

With some boiling water and grated, locally-made soap, we created liquid soap.  Mix a few other things to make laundry soap.  We will let you know how the soaps work.  Check out this site for recipes.

Making Monday: Tote Bag

I recently sewed up a grocery tote bag and added a quilt square/circle for some fun decoration. It has been holding up really well. I used the tote bag pattern out of the "One Yard Wonders" book, which was fun knowing that I am supporting other crafty Minneapolis women (one of the authors is co-owner of Crafty Planet). And because I want to use it and show it off I actually remember to bring it into the store with me!

Co-Op Adventure

We are going to an orientation to become volunteers/members at the Hampden Co-Op. The plan is to volunteer for 6 hours a month and get 21% off organic fruits, and vegetables, when we go grocery shopping. Sounds like a pretty sweet deal, we'll see how it goes.

Veganism Take Two

We have embarked on Vegan month take two. We have been vegan for 14 days. Above is a photo of a pizza luce pizza that has half soy free vegan cheese, and the other has rinotta, which is a vegan house specialty. Split in half the other direction has one half of fresh veggies, all of which was very tasty. The vegan thing has been much harder to transition into so far, then vegetarianism. A positive thing that has come out of all this has been that certain food tastes even better then it did before, a little food for thought as vegan moth continues.
